Flevoland
Excavation and public
During preliminary field research in 2008 a well preserved Mesolithic site was found in the line of the provincial road N307 between Lelystad en Zwolle in the middle of the Netherlands. In situ conservation of the archaeological site by adjusting the draft of the road was impossible. Therefore a five month excavation was carried out in the summer of 2010.
At the start of the project the province of Flevoland, the principal of the excavation, has indicated the great importance of reaching the public by a coherent communication program. For this reason an integrated approach of archaeological research and informing the public was chosen concerning the research and the results from the start of the excavation till the publication of the final report.
